Introduction:

Butyl acetate is widely used as a solvent for coatings, lacquers, and inks. Butyl acetate is also used in the manufacture of artificial leather, photographic film, and plasticizers.

Hazards Identification:

Butyl acetate is a flammable liquid and may cause fire or explosion if exposed to heat or flames. It is also harmful if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Long-term exposure to the substance may cause adverse health effects such as respiratory irritation, headaches, and dizziness. In cases of exposure, seek medical attention immediately.

Fire and Explosion Hazards:

Butyl acetate is a flammable liquid and may ignite in the presence of a spark or flame. It has a flash point of 24°C (75.2°F) and a boiling point of 126°C (258.8°F). In the event of a fire, use water or foam to extinguish it.

First Aid Measures:

In the event of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical attention immediately. In cases of skin contact, remove contaminated clothing and wash with soap and water. If ingested, do not induce vomiting and seek medical attention immediately. If inhaled, move the person to fresh air and seek medical attention.

Handling and Storage:

Butyl acetate should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources. Store in a tightly closed container and avoid exposure to sunlight. Butyl acetate should be handled in a well-ventilated area, and protective equipment such as gloves and goggles should be worn.
