On the other hand, ethanoic acid is a weaker form of acetic acid and is commonly found in diluted solutions. It has a mild, vinegar-like odor and is commonly used in food preservation, flavoring, and in the manufacture of various chemicals. Ethanoic acid solutions are typically less than 10% concentrated and are much less corrosive than glacial ethanoic acid.

Despite these differences, both glacial ethanoic acid and ethanoic acid have their own set of uses in various industries. Glacial ethanoic acid is commonly used in the production of various chemicals, including vinyl acetate monomer, acetic anhydride, and cellulose acetate. It is also used as a solvent and in the manufacturing of dyes and synthetic fibers. Ethanoic acid, on the other hand, is commonly used in the food industry as a preservative and flavoring agent, as well as in the production of various esters and solvents.
