Magnesium oxide powder 80% can be used to produce magnesium sulfate. Here comes the productive process:

Reaction formula: MgO + H2SO4 + 6H2O=MgSO4.7H2O

1. Measure the magnesium oxide powder and sulfuric acid proportionally.

2. Add some water to the neutralizing tank, slowly adding magnesium oxide powder and stirring. After that, add sulfuric acid and keep PH = 5, density = 1.370 g/m2, and temperature = 80 °C.

3. Filter the mixture and put it in the crystallizer.

4. Cooled to 30 °C and subjected to centrifugal separation.

5. Put wet material into a vibration-fluidized bed.

6. Dry it and get magnesium sulfate heptahydrate at 50°C–55°C.

Magnesium oxide is also used in the oil field. Naphthenic acid (NA) has been recognized as one of the major sources of corrosion in oil production and refining. This study investigated how a newly developed catalyst, MgO, performs in promoting the decarboxylation of carboxylic acid model compounds and the elimination of naphthenic acid from crude oil. It specifically focused on measuring CO2 formation and acid conversion to assess the catalyst's efficacy in facilitating reactions, particularly those involving compounds such as naphthoic acid.
