Potassium sulphate fertilizer is a physiologically acidic fertilizer. Because crops absorb potassium ions relatively more or faster than sulfate ions, rhizosphere soil acidification will improve the availability of phosphorus and micronutrient nutrients in the soil. This physiological acidification is especially important for rice seedling raising in northern China.

In order to cultivate strong seedlings and reduce diseases and insect pests, it is required to control the pH value of the seedbed soil or nutrient soil of rice seedlings in the range of 4.5~5.5. To this end, in addition to acid control with sulfuric acid water and appropriate application of ammonium sulfate nitrogen, potassium sulphate fertilizer should be used, 50 grams per square meter or 5 grams per seedling tray. This helps to acidify the rhizosphere soil.
