Introduction

Magnesium oxide for flue gas desulfurization (MgO) is calcined from raw magnesite at around 900 °C. Magnesium oxide (92%), due to its high activity, is recommended to be used to solve many environmental problems, such as water treatment, soil decontamination, and flue gas desulfurization. For flue gas desulfurization, the effect of MgO is to remove sulfur trioxide, which is the source of acid rain.

 

During the wet desulfurization of magnesium oxide, the flue gas enters the reaction tower radially from the lower part of the desulfurization reaction tower, contacts the magnesium hydroxide slurry during the rise in the reaction tower, and the sulfur dioxide in the flue gas reacts with magnesium hydroxide to form magnesium sulphate to achieve the effect of desulfurization. The physical properties of magnesium sulphate belong to the insoluble substance, which is partially converted into magnesium sulfate under the action of the oxidation fan.

Because the main components of the magnesium oxide wet-process desulfurization are magnesium sulfate and calcium sulfate, which is different from the calcium method for desulfurization, the solubility of the calcium sulfate is low, gypsum with higher purity can be produced by adopting the vacuum belt conveyor after the cyclone, and the gypsum market is wide.
