Magnesium Oxide In Feed

When the animals don't get enough magnesium oxide in feed, it will have the following effects on them:

1. The growth rate of the chicken decreases, becomes lethargic, and finally slowly dies. For laying hens, a lack of magnesium will lead to a decrease in egg production and the number of hatched eggs.

2. The pig will show extreme irritability, muscle cramps, loss of balance, and twitching of hands and feet, and eventually die.

3. The calf has excitement, anorexia, congestion, epilepsy, foaming at the mouth, salivation, and soft tissue calcification. In lactating cows, it causes twitching of the hands and feet, manifested by neurological symptoms, reduced feed intake, and muscle spasms around the face and ears. In addition, there will be an uncoordinated and stiff gait. In the later stages, the cow's head fell back and twitched. Normally, unless the animal receives clinical treatment, death will occur. So it would be more and more important to get enough magnesium oxide in feed for animals' diets.

4. Acid-Base Balance:

Magnesium oxide has a neutralizing effect and can help maintain the appropriate acid-base balance in the animal's digestive system.

This can be particularly beneficial in high-grain diets, which can lead to an acidic environment in the rumen (in ruminants) or the gastrointestinal tract.

5. Metabolic Functions:

Magnesium is involved in various metabolic processes, such as energy production, protein synthesis, and nerve and muscle function.

Adequate magnesium intake can support overall animal health and productivity.

Magnesium oxide in feed acts as a cofactor in important enzymatic reactions. It is essential for all biosynthetic processes, including glycolysis, energy-dependent membrane transport, the formation of cyclic AMP, and the transmission of the genetic code. In addition, magnesium is also involved in maintaining the potential across nerve and muscle membranes, is used for nerve impulse transmission, and is a structural part of bones.
