1. Brief Introduction of Technology

Magnesium desulfurization is based on magnesium oxide (MgO) as raw material and slurry formed by ripening as desulfurizer. It contacts with flue gas convection in absorption tower. Sulfur dioxide in flue gas reacts with magnesium oxide in slurry to be removed. The final reaction product is magnesium sulfite, which is oxidized and aerated to form magnesium sulfate solution. Magnesium sulfate can be used to produce ornite or to produce magnesium sulfate crystal by evaporation, concentration and crystallization. It can also be used as foliar fertilizer.


2. Major Chemical Reactions During Desulfurization

MgO+H2O=Mg(OH)2

Mg(OH)2+SO2=MgSO3+H2O

MgSO3+H2O+SO2=Mg(HSO3)2

MgSO3+1/2O2=MgSO4


3. Magnesium oxide desulfurization characteristics:

Magnesium oxide desulfurization is a promising desulfurization process, which is mature and has abundant sources of raw materials. The reserves of magnesium oxide in China are considerable. Therefore, magnesium oxide can be used as desulfurizer in desulfurization systems of various units.
